STEVE PREEG!

Steve is one of the VFX wizards over at Digital Domain.  He's been a VFX lead on plenty of amazing work that you've already seen:

Ship Systems Report - Update #39 - Q and A

Hey all,

On the first of this new year, I just wanted to come forward and thank you all for going on this journey with us and answer some of the questions that have been cropping up.  here you go:

What can I do to help?

CLICK CLICK CLICK. SHARE SHARE SHARE. The more we can show Hollywood executives that Steampunk isn't a "niche" genre that's "just for girls" and a "fashion fad" the better. Our launch was solid, but we need numbers to prove our point. So if you can get us out there, do.

Also we need a ton of help from costuming to gripping to anything and everything in between. If you want to get involved and you are near the LA area contact ester.dragonegg@gmail.com and let us know who you are and what you can do. We don't pay much, but at least the food is terrible.

Is there a time estimate for when the 6 episode, Season 1 DVD will be released?

No there isn't.  Basically our hangups are threefold.  First, we have a production company that has become attached to WoS in the ostensible hope that it would be put on a larger network with better budgets.  They have a ton of clout and oomph, but the deals we were hoping for have not resolved.  We're pushing forward with them and with a few other options.  I'm also throwing as much of my own money in as I can, because I want to be shooting, not waiting.  Second, the budget for the first episode laid down a lot of groundwork, but was more expensive than we thought it would be, and we got hit with taxes pretty hard (since our kickstarter was in the last month or so of 2012 we got taxed as if it was income), and the JOBS Act concessions for crowd funding did not go into place until 2013. Third, what we came out with on the first episode is quite good, and we want to make sure that what we release next will be even better.  The long and the short of it is that we are basically revising budgets and moving forward with Episode Two.  We'll go as far as we can till the money runs out.

I added the soundtrack CD to my pledge a long time ago, but wondering if it's just the 1st episode and coming out soon, or if it's the whole series and is going to be a long time coming?

The kickstarter was ostensibly for the pilot episode, and anything we got beyond our initial ask was to create more episodes.  So we could release the soundtrack for the first episode as a CD.  However, we were moving forward with the assumption that we were going to at least try for a full season (however long that season turned out to be, and however long that takes), and release the soundtrack when we're done.

I didn't get my swag.

All of the items (outside of the episodes themselves and the never ending grumble that is the App) have gone out. If you still have not received your stuff, contact us and we'll see what's going on.  But at this point you should have it.

Love the pin. Thank you!

You're welcome. It was made with love and the tears of Victorian maidens.

When's the next episode coming out?

We just finished some camera tests and we'll be posting some of that material soon.  Steve Preeg (who did the eye shot in the first ep and is known as one of the VFX leads on Gollum for Weta and won an Oscar for 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button') is coming on board to help me direct episode two.  He's amazing and we hope that the visuals we're aiming for blow your mind.

How's your kid?

He's great. Thanks for asking.  I don't sleep much, but that's not a new thing.

Any chance of an Android App?

Let's get Apple done first before we start getting all crazy shall we?

Can I send you guys a script/demo/composer's demo/resume/picture of me naked swordfighting?

We've written 10 episodes for the first season, but let's see how far we get. Depends on what you do.  Bear is so on board with composing for the show, I wonder how I got so lucky, so we don't need composers right now.  We've had a few requests to be an intern, so if you are interested you can send your resumes to ester.dragonegg@gmail.com. And Hell to the No.

Thank you for the first episode, it made me cry.

Thank you for helping us get it made.  We hope to bring you more and more and more.  Go click and share the first episode.  It really helps.

That's it for now.  If you have any other questions, you can ask us through the kickstarter WoS forums, or bug Ester and she'll try to find the answer.

Thanks as always.

Matt
